The Child Within, the Master of the Dreams
Paul L. Garlington

“In all of us, there’s the child. And in all of us, there’s the voice...a melody. And if you listen to the melody, it will lead you to the fulfillment of your fondest dreams. The magic is in us. The magic is: If you can think of it, if you can dream of it, you can achieve it. We are born into the world believing in magic, but other forces intrude, shutting our eyes to the magic, pulling us from our beginnings. We grow older and become trapped…except the magician. The magician remembers the freedom, the innocence. Magic reaches out to find the child within us, the master of our dreams.” (Siegfried and Roy, Masters of the Impossible).

What is the magic? It is the instinctive awareness that the supernatural is natural, and anything conceivable is possible. Who is the magician, yes, even the master of dreams? Is it not the little child within us all that doesn’t know good or evil, just God/good?! “When they (Joseph’s brothers) saw him from a distance and before he came close to them, they plotted against him to put him to death. And they said to one another, ‘Behold this master of dreams comes! (marginal rendering) Now then, come and let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits; and we will say a wild beast devoured him. Then let us see what will become of his dreams!’” (Gen 37:18-20)

The profound encouragement contained in the story of Joseph, the master of the dreams, is that even the jealousy of others, that is as cruel as the grave, will aid and abet the realization of fulfilled desire, and cause us to exclaim like the Apostle Paul, “My circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel (i.e., good news).” (Phil 1:12) Nevertheless, until we surrender to this child within, we will remain subjected to futility instead of entering into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.

It is the little child who will lead us past the flaming sword back to the experience of paradise restored. This is why Jesus said, “I praise Thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that Thou didst hide these things from the wise and intelligent, and didst reveal them to babes. Yes, Father, for thus it was well-pleasing in Thy sight.” (Mat 11:25, 26) Remember: If you are hungering and thirsting for the way back to paradise, don’t listen to the wise. Have we not been clearly informed that these are particularly the ones to whom the Father was well pleased to conceal this truth? The wise do not know and they are too stubbornly proud to admit it. However, if you don’t mind appearing foolish, that is the wise, the little child within that is completely innocent with regard to good and evil, will lead you straight to the secret door to the kingdom of perfect everything. On the other hand, Jesus said, “Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge; you did not enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in (babes), you hindered.” (Lk 11:52) Nevertheless, Jesus said, “Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it at all.” (Mk 10:14, 15)

“And I will lead the blind by a way they do not know, in paths they do not know I will guide them. I will make darkness into light before them and rugged places into plains. These are the things that I will do and I will not leave them undone.” (Is 42:16) Do you see it? You will be led out of your captivity into the glorious liberty of fulfilled dreams and visions BLINDFOLDED. Now, to a child, this is a game, an adventure, the very “stuff” of life itself. However, to the adults (those who have adulterated the truth that God is One, and besides Him, there is none other), to be led blindly in paths they do not know, is an invitation to anxiety, doubt, and fear. Only the little child within, who does not know good or evil, is capable of such absolute trust. Since this is a path you do not know, the intellect, which is governed by precedent, is not only useless, it can become a downright hindrance. It should be obvious at this point that only those who are absolutely committed to the revelation that it is all good will be able to abandon themselves irrevocably to a path the do not know. But rest assured, as you trust the master of the dreams, he will swiftly bring you into your desired haven. To the man of sense governed by appearance, this is too incredible for words. However, for the child within, who has been with us through all of our wanderings, waiting for our desperate call, it is a journey of no distance and nothing is too wonderful for God.

In his farewell address, Moses reveals this glorious truth when he said, “Your little ones who you said would become a prey, and your sons, who this day have no knowledge of good or evil, shall enter there, and I will give it to them, and they shall possess it.” (Deut 1:39) And again, the psalmist declared, “From the mouth of infants and nursing babes Thou hast established strength, because of Thine adversaries, to make the enemy and the revengeful cease.” (Ps 8:2) So you see, here again, the scripture reveals that it is the babe to whom the way will be revealed that leads us out of captivity in to a place of abundance. Or as Jesus said, “Out of the mouth of infants…Thou hast prepared praise for Thyself.”

Question: What is it that makes the child within the master of our dreams? Is it not the child’s absolute commitment to give all glory to absolute being that gives the child absolute authority to decree the thing? It is this little child who will decree a thing (dream, vision) and see it established and know that none can say unto him, “What are you doing?” Because out of the mouth of this child proceeds all glory to the Almighty God, his word does not return empty. His word accomplishes whatever he desires and succeeds in every matter to which it is sent. How long will you suffer and languish in arrogant pride, knowing something God doesn’t know, ignoring the child within who is the master of your dreams? Was it not a little child that led the impotent, blind Samson, who had been reduced to a buffoon, back to the place of triumph over his enemies? Isn’t this what Isaiah is referring to when he declares that a little child will lead even those who are so steeped in duality that they have become savage predators? And the wolf will dwell with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the kid, and the calf and the young lion and fatling together, and a little boy will lead them. Also the cow and the bear will graze; their young will lie down together; and the lion will eat straw like the ox. And the nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra, and the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den. They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” (Is 11:6-9)

Can you see it? To the wise and intelligent, this is a pipe dream at best, but to the child within, this is exceedingly normal, for the whole earth to this child IS full of God’s glory. It is this glorious truth that the child takes for granted that kept David from despair. After listening to the child within, he became convinced that he would see the goodness of God (glory of God) in the land of the living. (Ps 27:13)

“In Gibeon, the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream at night; and God said, ‘Ask what you wish me to give you.’…[And Solomon responded,]’ I am but a little child who does not know how to go out or come in…;” (1Kgs 3:5,7) Here again, it is the little child who does not know good and evil who experiences unlimited access to the kingdom of perfect everything. No wonder it was AFTER Jesus cursed the fig tree that He declared, “Whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it shall be granted him.” (Mk 11:23) Adam and Eve did not resort to the fig leaf aprons until they knew something that God did not know. The little child, however, can accept without question that whatever exists has already been named good and very good. Man suffers from an ego need to be more original than God, even if it requires him to name something “not good.”

In the world today, there is no end to programs that promise us the good life. Why do we insist on spending money for what is not bread and our wages for what does not satisfy? If we will listen carefully to the babe within and eat what is good, we will delight ourselves in abundance. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. Do not be as the horse or the mule which have no understanding, whose trappings include bit and bridle to hold them in check, otherwise they will not come near to you.” (Ps 32:8,9)

Do you see it? As long as you need the “security” of a legalistic, judgmental framework to hold you in check, you will be woefully out of touch with the master of dreams that resides within. Moreover, as long as you are dependent upon external constraints, “You will be under guardians and managers until the date wet by the Father.” (Gal 4:2) Remember-it is your little ones and your sons who this day have no knowledge of good and evil who will lead the way into the realization of the promised inheritance. “And it will come about after this that I will pour out my spirit on all mankind (i.e., the consciousness of oneness) and your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Then I will make up to you for the years the swarming locusts have eaten, the creeping locusts, the stripping locusts, and the gnawing locusts…And you shall have plenty to eat and be satisfied. And praise the name of the Lord your God (i.e., give all glory exclusively to the one God), who hast dealt wondrously with you. Then my people will never be put to shame.” (Joel 2:25, 26, 28)

Are you ready for this? Then why do you delay? The little child within, the master of dreams, is waiting for you to put Him in the driver’s seat. Absolute commitment to the truth that it is all good, combined with the absolute trust in the inner voice, yes, even the melody that reminds us of our native state, will restore you in a moment, in a twinkling of an eye. “Your ears will hear a word behind you, ‘This is the way, walk ye in it,’ whenever you turn to the right or to the left.” (Is 30:21).

And now, why tarriest thou? Arise and be baptized in to an ocean of infinite good, and wash away your sins (missing the mark of the glory of God), calling on the name of the Lord with joy inexpressible and full of glory. “And the Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come.’ And let the one who hears say, ‘Come.’ And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.” (Rev 22:17)

I repeat, are you ready for this? Then all things are ready.
